Documentaries: Sound

There are many different types of sound, which can be used to create a certain type of atmosphere: 

Soundtrack:  The theme music for the programme. 

Here is an examples of a soundtrack from a documentary


  • Soundtracks are used to represent the documentary which will make it more recognizable and memorable.


Dialogue: Speech directly from the characters played. 

Here is an example of dialogue:

David Attenborough - Wonderful World:
  • Dialogue engages the viewers and infuse its story with the documentary.

Non- dietetic sound:  This is where sound can be added into the clip.

  • This is an image which has been taken out of the documentary ' Planet Earth' showing an image of a jungle while added sounds from other creatures which may be found in there such as parrots or monkeys.

 

Dietetic sound:  This is where sound emerges from the clip itself.

  • This is an image which has been taken from the documentary ' Planet Earth'. The sounds which emerges from the bird it self is know as dietetic.


Sounds used in our Documentary:


The two types of sound that we used in our Documentary were dialogue and soundtrack. These are the two main types of sound that are used in Documentary's. 


Dialogue: 


The first piece of sound that was used in our documentary was dialogue. It was crucial to us that the sound worked perfectly well as this is the main piece of sound used. We wanted to make sure that it was clear and understandable without echoing. In order to achieve this we use this microphone which would make it easier to hear.




 

Soundtrack:

Another pieces of sound that we wanted to include was soundtrack. This at the start and though out the documentary, we went looking on different websites where we would be able to find copyright free music. This consisted of:



These two websites allowed us to listen to a verity of sounds that might be suitable to play on our documentary. The soundtrack that we selected in the end was:



  • This piece of music will be used at the very start of the documentary. 


  • This piece of music will be used throughout the documentary when the interviews are taking place,
